A company is as good as its employees, and the employees are as good as the recruiter. In today’s world, good recruiter traits are golden skills that companies are chasing. Having a good recruiter can skyrocket a company’s employee pool, thereby increasing revenue and the organization’s growth.

While people may have a stereotypical view that a recruiter’s main job is just to select CVs and conduct interviews, a good recruiter does far more for a company than meets the eye. On the contrary, having inefficient recruiters can massively impact a company’s finances, work environment and culture.

So, what are good recruiter traits, and how do you identify them?

    What are good recruiter traits?

A good recruiter not only selects good employees but also ensures that the entire recruitment process is smooth and unbiased. For example, they have to be equally professional while interacting with employees who were selected and those who didn’t make the cut for the job.

So, recruiters need to have strong interpersonal relations, a good networking circle, and an understanding of the organizations they are working for. Since every organization has some distinct culture, a work environment hiring employees who would be great first for not only the role but also the environment is a must, and it is here that a good hiring team comes into play.

So, here are some of the eight good recruiter traits.

    Understand the hiring role

At an organization, hiring could be done for multiple roles. For example, a creative agency will hire copywriters, designers, motion graphic designers, a social media team, and web developers, to name a few. All these roles are unique and demand different skills. So, one of the first things a good recruiter does is understand each role so they can also give their insights.

Having a basic understanding helps them have fruitful conversations with the candidates during the interview. They must also keep themselves abreast of any developments in the field they are hiring for. In addition, a candidate will be more extroverted with a recruiter who knows the role.

    Have clear communications

As employees, we all have faced a situation where we applied for the job and gave the interview before being completely ghosted by the recruiter. This not only makes the candidates’ experience bad but also damages the company’s reputation. So, one of the most important traits of a good recruiter is having clear communications.

A good recruiter understands that clear communications can make the hiring process efficient and less time-consuming. This will also help them recruit similar candidates who are equally competent in communication. In the long run, it will help form a strong bond and foster team spirit within the organization.

Have a strong network of candidates

A recruiter should also possess a strong network within the industry. This is because they must delve into the market to hire candidates at a moment’s notice.  They must also be equally adept at online hiring strategies such as LinkedIn.

With most recruiting now being done online, it is also easier for recruiters to establish a large network with lots of CVs that could tomorrow become employees. This is of immense help during emergency hires.

This flexibility is perhaps one of the most underrated good recruiter traits that makes the organization’s hiring process run like a well-oiled machine.

    Build relationships

A recruiter’s main strength is the relationships that they form during their career. A recruiter’s job is not just to hire people but also to form deep relationships. And this process doesn’t end with the hiring. The recruiters must also ensure they form deep connections with all the employees.

Having one-on-one conversations with employees ensures that the recruiters are on top of things at the company. Even during the hiring process, recruiters should also ask about the candidates’ lives and make them feel as comfortable as possible.

So, one of the good recruiter traits is to ensure that candidates feel that they are more than just a hire and that their opinions and feelings are valued at the company if they are hired.

    Be adept at recognizing bias

As has been mentioned in several research studies, the hiring process can be affected by several biases. This could range from gender bias, or religious bias, racial bias or even beauty bias. And if not checked, these biases can affect the company as biases will massively decrease the quality of workforce at the organization.

So, this is the reason why recruiters have to be expert at recognizing different types of biases. In addition,  they must also be well versed in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion(DEI) hiring practices since most of the companies are now focusing on making their workforce diverse.

    Be a problem solver

As a recruiter, you can face several challenges that you may not have anticipated. For example, a candidate cannot join even after accepting the offer letter. This means that recruiters have to be ready for such situations. So, the hirers have to be problem solvers who are always ready for solutions.

They have to be ready to go through hundreds of CVs, find the right one, interview them, hire them and at the same time also ensure they are within the budget of the company. They are also the go to person if any untoward incidents take place in the workplace. This could be conflicts between the employees or a serious offense such as harassment.
